I'm hating trying to cut the lower control arm mounts off with a grinder and cutoff wheel.. cant get in a position where i'm not getting PO'd. I forgot how much this sucks, did it to the old XJ many years ago.

Wondering if i'll have clearance with the arms against these oem mounts with the suspension installed on 4.5" coils... and taking it around the corner to get access to an acetylene torch.

Anyone done this?

Plasma cutter is the way to go. See if you can rent one from someplace, it will be well worth it.

I don't think you will have the clearance if you leave those factory mounts.... figured I'd answer the question you asked. Lol

You should be able to drive it somewhere to get it cut off. I did a hack job trying to cut the drivers side mount off with a 4.5" grinder. My friend cut the passenger side off in 20 minutes with the same grinder and it looks clean... Watching him do it he cut the triangles out first, then the sides and finally the back. If you do it that way you wont hit spots with 3 layers of metal and explode the cutting disc in your face...

And an experienced answer! Yeah, drivers side is a pita and took quite awhile. I did chip edges of the disc and had it disintegrate.

Pass side was much easier as you mentioned. Just gotta finish grinding down smooth and i'll be ready to install the axle and longarms.

Thank You two..

No problem. A flapper disc will make quick work of cleaning up that hack job on the drivers side. I fought that damn thing for almost 2 hours, and blew up 3 cutting discs in my face.

Not sure what a flapper disc is.. i dont have much fab experience. I have a few that say for blending that my BIL brought me home from work. I tell him what i'm doing and he gets me ****..

I finished up the drivers side saturday and did the pass side this am. The drivers side i can run my hand over and not get bloody. I tend to be **** about stuff when i'm building a new rig from what my friends tell me.. who'da thunk it.

Nice. I just did a d30/d44 swap with 4.56 gears and RK 3 link long arms.
