Which of these tires to choose?
I'm a new Grand Cherokee owner: just bought a nice 1997 Grand Cherokee Limited. Love it!
The tires are very worn out and I need to get new ones ASAP. Right now, the tires are Kumho 255/55R18 109V Ecsta STX.
I want to keep the 18" tire size. I need good tires for city/highway/commute...low noise is good! But I also need to go to Lake Tahoe a couple times in winter and may encounter snow. Furthermore, will do some driving this fall in the Sierra mountains on some dirt roads (logging roads)---not planning any off-road action, but those dirt roads may have mud or light snow.
Is there a good tire for all of this? Should I go with the same Kumho that is on it now?
I see on Tirerack.com that the Kumho Road Venture APT KL51 has slightly higher ratings than the Ectsa and the price is about the same. I'd like to stay in that low price range (less than $150 each).
So, which is better: Kumho 255/55R18 109V Ecsta STX vs. Kumho 255/55R18 Road Venture APT KL51 109H?
Or go with a different tire?
Thanks!!

I know you said you wanted to stay under $150 each, and you may be able to go with a 30/950R18 BFG all terains, if you shop around, try craigslist in your area. Just got 4 BFG Mud terians in the same size for my 97 loredo, a little noisy, but make it look really mean, got them from an old timer for $50 a peice, they were brand new a year ago only had 3000 miles on them. I shopped around for about 6 weeks and found this deal on craigslist. In my opinion BFG's are the best out there, have had many different styles, they last a long time, aroung 60K if you rotate every 8-10 thousand miles.

As a tire installer, I've seen many bad belts in kumos, generals, douglas, and goodyears... BFG, Michilin, Uniroyal, and Cooper... All have been exelent tires, barring the cheap line china ones (they ARE out there unfortionatly)
www.treadwright.com for very reasonable prices on retreaded ones (i had a very good experiance with them)
www.treadepo.com is also another online option...
NOT to say that tirerack isnt great, but, there are always other options...
