I noticed the tack in my 2003 cherokee is fluctuating 2-300 rpm ALOT when the cruise is set. pobably wouldn't have notices if i didn't feel the change. I drove it to work with out the cruise and it ran perfect. Is this a common thing? should i be looking into something.

Welcome to CF!
That sounds to me like the converter lock-up is "Hunting", as in engaging then kicking out. 200 to 300 rpm is about the right range. This normally happens when climbing a hill on the highway, but should re-engage when the extra load is removed. My converter was doing the same thing, then the lock-up quit entirely. It doesn't seem to matter much. That was 30K miles ago and it's still running fine.

i should have thoght of that. I had that on a vehicle before. i ended up unpluging the electrical connector and it ran fin. Can i get away with that on a cherokee?

Unfortunately, no. All the electronic functions in the transmission go thru one plug. The TCC is pin #7 and control of it comes from the transmission control module. It may be just a failing solenoid, but if you take it to a trans shop, they're going to want to rebuild the trans. If you're inclined, you can replace it yourself. Again, it could be the torque converter clutch.
Mine just doesn't work ever. Every once in a while it will set a CEL code P0740. I just reset it with my scan tool and it remains off for a while, sometimes for months. It reappears more often when I take it on the highway. I recently took it to Rochester, a round trip of about 300 miles. It didn't reset UNTIL I GOT BACK!
