Default Starter wire

On my j2002 jeep gc, the green silinoid wire is stripped with copper wire showing, it won't start unless I hit that bare wire against but on starter, if I put electrical tape on this will it start normal?

You may have more problems than just the lack of insulation on the wire. You need to replace that section of wire, then see how things work.

It sounds like that wire was overheated by an overload or loose connection. If the copper is crystallized or the connector on the end is fried, you won't be getting the amperage you need to engage the starter. I'd replace as much of the length of that wire as I could.

For anyone else reading this (and you), my mechanic friend showed me a big pickle jar full of pinch connectors he got at a swap meet for $20 that are pre-tinned so you can heat them after installing them to create a solder joint! I wasn't aware there was such a thing!
