I just looked up the AC Delco reman part numbers for a 97 and a 2000 and they are both the same. You can do the same having more interest than I do.

Aside, my 97 4.0 with over 200k starter is starting to not start sometimes. Give it credit, it's still wearing the white mopar part number sticker, I wonder if it's the oe.

Yeah, my 2000 WJ has the original starter at 218K miles. They are gear reduction units so they really don't get a lot of load on them unless you have a no start issue and crank the **** out of them.

Not to hijack the thread, but every so often it will spin about 1.5 engine turns, and hang...sounds like the engine is water locked. Thinking maybe the solenoid copper ring has a few too many burnt spots. For a time I was thinking the timing chain was really, really loose.

Yeah, if the timing is too far advanced and it fires, it can stop a starter dead cold! With a loose chain, it would be retarded. Sounds like the starter lacks the torque needed. It could be just worn brushes but nobody bothers to fix them anymore.
