Default Stalling and Engine stop

Hi I just bought a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited V8. The truck stalls and dies while driving and the gauges are down. I have to wait for an hour or two before it starts. The Crank Position shaft sensor was changed as well as the spark plugs by a mechanic. It still died about two hours later. Took it to Jeep dealership to be checked and they said the fuel pump needs to be changed. The mechanic said a bad fuel pump will not cause all gauges to fall as well as it will start as soon as I crank it but it doesn't till half an hour or an hour later. Please any suggestions?

I can't say what the root cause is straight away, others may chime in. But with the symptoms you described, I would begin by carefully checking the wiring harness/looms under the hood. Make sure you don't have any loose wires that may be coming into contact with the engine, etc. and causing some sort of a short. That's just a shot in the dark without more specific detail.

And just FYI.... a number of Jeep models are known for electrical gremlins.... especially some model years of GC. On the GC's there's also a known issue with the ECU with where/how it's mounted from the factory. It happens because it can vibrate. I've read where a lot of owners have had success resolving it by making a mounting plate to go under it so that it lowers the chance of vibrations. That could certainly be the actual cause as from what I've read, what you mentioned are symptoms that are known to be a result of that issue.

Default Engine Dies

Thanks for your input. When it dies, it cranks but doesn't start. It cranks very well. After reading your post, I tried something new. I started the car and it ran for a couple of minutes and shut off. When I opened the door to the driver side, the no key recognition light came on upon. I wiggled the cables leading in to the door and the check engine light popped up on the screen. I closed the door and the check engine light went off but the key recognition light stayed on. I did this for close to 30 minutes wiggling the cables and found some lose cables. 10 minutes later, the car started and idled well for a couple of minutes (3) and died but no lights came on the board. The dealership Checked the wiring harness and said it was fine. Please do you know a good jeep specialist out here in TX killeen?

Thanks very much for the information, the fuel pump was actually the problem. Due to low pressure from the fuel pump, the computer was reading no fuel and would shut off the system. I took out the battery and put it back , now I have a fuel evap pump code. I think I am heading somewhere now. The wiring harness is intact as well as the computer was changed before I bought the truck.
