Default Speedometer at 10mph parked

Hello All,

Just purchased my first GC last night. 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited... it has a few issues, but my immediate question is if anyone has had an issue with the speedometer reading 10 mph while parked/stopped. It appears to just show me driving 10 mph faster than I am...and when I get into the 60+ range it increases a bit to maybe 15 mph faster than I'm going.

I've had plenty of other vehicles that I've worked on that needed new speed sensors in the tail of their transmissions to get the speedometers to work again, but those were manual transmissions. Is it the same for automatics? I swung by AAP and didn't see any speed sensor that came up for the A/T. Thoughts? Could it be the cluster and not a sensor?

On a side note, any downloadable links of service manuals anywhere?

Thanks everyone!

I think the problem is in the speedometer head, not the sensor. Somebody may have fooled with the cluster and pulled the needle off and installed it in the wrong position.
