Shortly after I fill up there is a strong gas odor inside and outside the vehicle. Not while I'm filling but when I get to the next stop, I smell it. I can't see any leaks or spots when it is sitting. I've looked around underneath and nothing. If I just put a few gallons in it doesn't happen, only when I fill up. Any suggestions?

Obviously there is something at the top of the tank leaking. Could be the fuel pump gasket, filler neck, or the tank vent.

That would make sense. I first smelled it today when I rolled down the window while driving which could pull the fumes up thru the body somewhere. I guess I'll have to figure out how full I can fill it w/o the smell.
It's strong when it's sitting now so may be the fill neck. It probly sits lower than the top of the tank. Thanks.

IDK if Jeeps are prone to this, but I had 2 Dodge Caravans with filler necks that rotted out. The dealer wanted $150 for a new one, so I did a JY search only to not find a single one that was good. I built my own using flexible rubber couplings and exhaust tubing. I found I couldn't reinstall the fender liner, but I think the dirt that accumulated behind it was the cause of the problem. I just made sure it wasn't leaking, then sprayed it with undercoating.
Try filling it wide open and stopping when the nozzle shuts off, not topping it beyond that. That way, after the air escapes, there won't be gas in the filler pipe.
