Dear Experts,
I am looking at my first jeep. A 1998 Grand Cherokee. Test drive found a Whirring noise from the rear diff that was only there under load/ acceleration and coasting (went silent when slowing) got worse the further I drove it.
The steering was also very strange. It seemed to lag abit and took a bit of over correcting to get back to straight. Didn't take it up to speed to see if I would die.
What could the steering be?
Do you think the diff just needs fluid/ fluid change or is this a common component failure?

Probly axle bearings, or brake issues. Any lift on this Jeep???

 

Brakes are fine and not lifted. Have found similar problems listed the other topics on this forum and found them very informative. I am hoping the steering is just the damper. Is the stock standard easy to replace? I am assuming it bolts in like a shocky...
And the diff ( from the tech articles I've seen from you guys) will need new fluid anyway so will see if that fixes it
