I'm pretty sure i need the n/s ball joint replaced. Its a UK car so the n/s is on the right side as you look at the car from the front.
I've come to the conclusion that it needs replacing as 1. I have a note from 2008 when it had some work done stating it was on its way out, and 2. from looking on the net, it says that if you have to use pressure on the steering wheel to keep the car in a straight line, then its the ball joint. Also, the outside edge of that tyre has worn.
Now I have no mechanical experience and I pretty much try and do everything with my leatherman and a hammer!
The garage wants £170 to replace the top and bottom of the bj. I can buy the part for £50 but, could I fit it myself or would I end up either breaking something else or not fitting it correctly?
Is it an easy job and what tools would I need? I'm keen to try and do something, but not at the risk of cocking it up!
