Hello all, Having electrical issues with a 2000 WJ with 230k miles.

1). Alternator stopped working.
2). Overdrive does not engage on highway.
3). Driving off from a stop, transmission slips. If shift selector placed in 2, transmission does Not slip.

Codes;
P1682 = Charge system test fail of generator

P0753 = open short in overdrive control circuit, or transmission relay circuit in JTEC RE transmission

P1765 = open/short in transmission relay control circuit

P1495 = open/short in leak detection pump.


Have been Noggin Pokin for a few days, looking for damaged/shorted connections and wire harnesses. Checking fuses, researching, etc. Reseated main ground on engine block.

Am now at a loss as to how to proceed. Guessing that alternator is not faulty, that it’s something regarding a management computer. Perhaps the PCM? since that is where the voltage regulator is.

Any guidance would be appreciated, Thank You.

 

Where did this go for you? Was it PCM or bad connections and grounds? Did you try to reseat the PCM connection?

 

Fixed by replacing PCM computer located in engine bay on firewall. Bought it from an EBay vendor for $60, just had to give my VIN number.
Installed PCM and everything was magically fixed. Charging works, transmission now has crisp clean shifts, overdrive works!
Have a few hundred miles on it now and all is well..
