Short lived knock at start up

Short lived knock at start up
Ok so I have a 93 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L that runs well minus the current exhaust leak. Every now and then (maybe once every two weeks of daily driving) it produces a very loud knock when it starts and lasts about 2 seconds then disappears as quickly as it came. I can't nail down any consistent conditions under which it does it either! ie: warm, cold, etc. Any ideas or someone out there with the same issue?
