I have a 1996 Grand limited with the leather interior, well the drivers seat has split at the seams and now is torn up. I found a perfect seat out of a 98 at the boneyard they say it will not fit! My question is 96 thru 98 are pretty much interchangleble aren't they? Any one swapped the seats from a 98 into a 96? Thanks

I believe the divide is 94-97 and then 98-04, ZJs and then WJs respectively. I know I adapted the seat bases from my 99 XJ to fit 99 WJ seats in there. I believe I can do the same with ZJ seats so in theory you should be able to adapt the 98s seats to your 96. OR you could find some that are direct bolt in, which isn't always easy.

I know its 93 thru 98 and 99 thru 04. I have several ZJ's and Wj's but the guy at the boneyard says 96's have a difference that the others don't. I think it will work but trying to be sure. Thanks for the reply.

The seat cushion assembly is bolted the the base (whatever it is) with 4 nuts on studs that are welded to the base system tracks. I have 97 XJ seats in my 00 WJ. The bases and floorpans are totally different, but the seat cushion assembly bolted up perfectly. It's a little tricky to stand on your head to change them, so I recommend removing the seat, base and all, then taking them apart. Warning! I had to twist the bolt heads off the floor bolts to get it out of the XJ! I recommend a 13mm flat ratchet or short socket for the nuts. The plastic side panels screwed right on as well.
My WJ is grey cloth so for the final swap, I'm looking for a pair of '97 or earlier ZJ seats for mine. The seats in my WJ tend to pinch the nerves in my hips, so I need the older "flat" cushion design. Of course, black leather would be real nice! The whole seats were $15 each at my local YouPull-YouSave.

They should be interchangeable... a 1993-1995 seat should fit in a 1996-1998, and a 1996-1998 seat should fit in a 1993-1998... in fact all of the parts on the interior, except for the dash, are interchangeable. You could put 1996 door panels in a 1995, for example.

How about this one?
"Is it a Cherokee or a full sized one?" A what? I was looking for wiper blades.
