Default Running 210 degrees?

Hello All, Im a newbie and just bought a 98 grand cherokee with a 3" skyjacker lift. Arb front bumper with a 8,000lb winch, euro altezza rear lights, Thule ski rack and jks front control arms and a bunch of other parts. My question is my radiator temp is running at about 210 is that normal? It dosent take long either to warm up to temp when I turn it off my overflow can is boiling. Not enough coolant maybe? Looks like there is more water then coolant, what should I do? Thanks

210 is normal the coolant boiling not so much.

i would replace the sending unit and do a full coolant flush and see where that gets you. If anything a coolant flush is never a bad thing and a new sensor, specially a vidal one is not a bad thing either.

also, welcome to the site! post pictures of your rig

Also, coolant heats faster than just water, you have to have the coolant/anti-freeze to prevent corrosion, otherwise just water would be better, it heats slower and cools faster. Also make sure you don't have alot of bugs and junk in radiator. Use caution blowing out w/ an air compressor, just a garden hose probably will do best. Repeat every 50k mi or so. (recomended 70k, but...)

Default Winching temp

Is you winch blocking air flow? Check for grass and other debris between the air conditioner condensor and the raditor (sometimes this area will be full of crap).

210 is pretty normal for a Cherokee, 260 is bad.

My 5.9 runs around 195 typically. In the mountians while trailering my bike it would hit 205 pretty quick going up then cool down. Seems a little odd that you are boiling in the overflow tank. You may want to pressure test the cooling system. The radiator cap too. Ive seen bad head gaskets raise the coolant temp due to hot gasses entering the cooling system and raise the pressure enough to cause coolant to push past the radiator cap into the overflow tank. Any contamination in the coolant?

Same logic applies to a hairline crack in a head between the compresion chamber and the coolant passages

Default 160 deg F unless I leave in running with the A/C on

My 95 ZJ w/318 cid runs at 160 deg F unless I leave in running with the A/C on in the Hot Texas sun, then it will move up to 200-210.

DMilner, where do you hag you hat; are you a Dual Sport rider?

210 is a normal operating range. No idea why you're boiling over. Test the cooling efficiency of your mix before you bother with a flush. also might be short on coolant

also are you sure you are boiling over? because when you turn your car off the pressure of your engine pops the rad cap a bit and releases some coolant back into the overflow tank making it seem like its boiling. If it is doing it while the car is on however....

but try a new rad cap with the correct PSI rating. that may be your problem too!
