I'm going to give the guard dogs a shot. I figure it's worth it to give them an honest chance here in Oregon being that they are about half of what it usually runs to put new rubber on.

if you are on the west side of the state you have similar weather as I do, and they have been great in all conditions for me in both of my rigs

In powder and regular snow they do awesome, lugs act like paddles on a snowmobile track. On ice they aren't any better then any other tire. On the 1/2 of ice we had here a week ago I was sliding but never lost control, then again I didn't top 20MPH the whole week

i was out last night in rocks covered in about 3" of snow and ice mix and didnt really even have 2 use 4x4 very often i think these tires are amazing, may not clean out as well as some of the super aggresive tires but the road noise isant bad so there pretty plesant onroad also, The big thing i would say is request matching sidewalls

kedge grip is an option for walnut sheels and glass put into the rubber compound by treadwright the shells come out acting as siping as they wear and the crused glass helps as a traction aid on ice if you pick your tire size and scroll to the bottom on there sight it will tell you all about it

Question is does it actually work? And will it decrease tread life in the tire?

I would assume it acts similar to siping, and like siping would expect a lower tread life.

treadwright voids your warranty if you get them siped so that would be your warranty-friendly option

How much is the tread life possibly reduced?

i would never sipe a retread, you sipe a tire on a race car to build heat in the tire quickly and heat is a no no in a retread
