Default Replaced t-stat...possible issue?

Hey guys,

Well, I replaced my thermostat today without too much difficulty. I do have a question though....
When I got the new one (a Stant 195 degree rated one) I tried to push in the plunger part that moves and it was damn near impossible. When I took out the old one, I tried the same thing and it moved pretty easily with a little bit of force. Is that normal? I've never had to replace a t-stat before...lucky I guess. I was quite surprised at the difference between the movement of the 2 t-stats. I'm really hoping I didn't get a defective one or that the original one was still fine. Opinions?

boil it, put it in the water and boil up, then you will se that it opens up before it boils, if it dont open up its gone. And yes, use a boiler on a stove. Put the old one in to, so you can see it its bad or not.
