Model: Grand Cherokee
Engine: 5.7L HEMI
Remove WK2 Dashboard
How do I remove the plastic dashboard compartment in front of the gearshift, under the climate control system? This is the small compartment that has a cigarette lighter inside and opens up by pushing the door at the bottom (the door opens upward).
I would like to remove the plastic shelf and cut or drill a hole in the back. It seems very difficult to disassemble the dash to take the compartment out, so my next question is - is there anything important like wires or other fragile things directly behind it? Plan B is to drill a hole without removing the dash. Is this a bad idea?
PS, the hole will be about 1.5 inches and the purpose is so that I can fit my full size handgun in the compartment barrel first.
