Default Rear Wheel Bearing help plz...

Hi All,

Just received my rear wheel bearings for my dana 35 axle. I see the bearing runs on the half shafts.

What i would like to know is, do the half shafts end up worn out and need replacing along with wheel bearings, because i dont want to pull apart and find out i need new shafts!!!

Thanks for your time...

Alan.

If you can see and feel a groove where the bearing rides on the shaft, you should replace the shaft.

Generally no,you don't need to replace the shaft. Occasionally tho, yes.

Are you replacing the bearings because they're bad, or just replacing them as part of a rebuild? If the bearing was making a growling noise and the rollers are damaged, you really should replace the shaft. The axle ashaft acts as the inner bearing race, and if the rollers are buggered up chances are the shaft is too.

Im replacing the wheel bearings because they are bad, mainly the passenger side.
I jacked the whole jeep of the ground onto axle stands then started the jeep up & the passenger side sounded like there was a gnome in there with a hammer lol...

There is a bearing for use on worn axles. It eliminates the seal and moves the bearing surface over to were the seal used to ride. It is a sealed bearing. The part number starts with RB.... if I remember right. Had a hard time finding an axle, at least the one I needed. Had to clearance the housing a little to get it in though.

Hey, I was wondering if you or anyone else has any more info on these bearings. I'm going to be rebuilding my dana 35 soon and am interested in trying these out.
