Default Rear end play Dana 44

So after the recent snow fall I noticed that it felt like the rear of the jeep was loose, like when the front has the Discos out. Got out this morning because it felt weird and pushed and pulled on the passenger tire. With all 4 tires on the ground I can make it clunk. Not like C-clip slop. Is this the signs of worn axle bearings? I plan on putting it on jacks and tearing it apart. Opinions welcomed!!! Advice much appreciated!!!

Welcome to CF. Yes it sounds like worn bearings to me. After purchasing my '97 ZJ w/the D44a, it was having rear axle issues so I took it in for service. I had to have both wheel bearings, the carrier bearings, the pinion bearings, and new ring & pinion gears installed because of previous neglect. So if I were you I'd either pull the cover off and check for further damage, or take it in and have it inspected.

Thanks I'll do that. It's got a leaky diff cover so I can take care of that while I at it.
