d30 front, the 5.2 has the d44 rear (slim chance it may have the d35),for normal driving wear and tear the axles are not weak but the 44 does have a little bit of a rep for going out. it's when you add 33" or bigger tires or lockers and a heavy right foot ,thats when they get the "weak" rep

I personally like my D30 and D35. It has never let me down when I've needed it.

There are some known issues with the pinion bearings on the ZJ rears....

The rear trackbar wallows out its mounting hole allowing the axle to slop around a bit and put uneven loads on the pinion shaft and bearing. The bearing wears out and starts making the tell-tale growling noise.

The problem is mostly seen on ZJ's that are used to tow quite a bit. People want to load trailers to max capacity and still drive 70....

You say that like it's a problem. You mean I can't tow my combine up-hill at 75 and not expect something to break?
