quick 4 wheel drive question

Default quick 4 wheel drive question

Ok so i have it in 2wd and it ways it is and all that. but i can't spin the front drive shaft freely when it's sitting.. is this normal? if i made sense

I edited his post slightly to make sense to us English speaking types.

Normal, yes. Grand Cherokees do not have unlockable front hubs, so the front driveshaft will spin at all times when the vehicle is moving even in 2wd.

yes this is normal, since the jeep does not have locking hubs the front wheels are always connected to the driveshaft. That is why you can not spin it. Raise one of the wheels off the ground and then you could spin it.

So if the front drive shaft wont spin how does it stay in so called 2wd? Someone might have to break this one down for me. Im a lil confused. Well more just wanting to know than confused. It seems like a dumb question than anything.

The front axle is engaged/disengaged from the engine and transmission at the transfer case right?

my 4 wheel drive is making a grinding noise and its not working? any ideas
u joints good , axles good, driveshaft good, pinion bearing brand new,
any ideas
