you have to separate the hub from the c knuckle. the big nut doesn't need to be undone, it will just pull the shaft with the hub. unless you want the hub separate from the shaft. ie, replacing the hub or stub shaft.

the hub could be seized onto the c knuckle, so you must separate it somehow once you remove the three 12pt bolts from the back. the link i have above explains a trick to separating the hub. otherwise, it's hammer and chisel time. you'll be there for hours....

Unhappy

Thanx mate but now i have a new problem. I took the axle from a 1991 pioneer and it was all good til i ripped mine out today and discovered that the shafts are completely different mine is about a foot longer than the pioneer axle!! Anyway anyone have any ideas what would cause the speedo to keep goin up and down even at a steady speed?

OP..... look in the Write-up section here...

There is one about changing U-joints on a Dana 30...

It contains the process for removing the hub with pictures.

Also on my 94 ZJ I have CV shafts. So I needed to remove the boot retaining ring to get the shaft out. Not sure on the 93 as it is a first year vehicle and some things got changed between 93 and 94

Guy with the 91....

You have a vacuum disco axle, and your replacement shaft is from a non-disco model.

The speedo problem might just be a worn gear at the end of the cable in the back of the speedo. I have had that problem with several older Cherokees.. At the moment I can't remember when they switched from gear driven to electrical pick-up on the speedo.
