Hello,
We've always had Select Trac on past GC's and I recently picked up a 03 Overland with Quadra Drive. We live in WI where we get lots of snow in the winter. I get how the Quadra Drive works; the vehicle will always be in RWD unless there is some wheel spin, then it transfers some power to other wheels. Ok, I get that. And that probably works great when a person is trying to power through some huge snow and rocks where another vehicle might get stuck. I get how select trac works too and I've worked on lots of jeeps and use my Select Trac Cherokee for snow plowing. So, I'm very familiar with Select Trac.
But how about stability of QD when driving down country roads in with 4-6 inches of snow? Is the vehicle going to be squirrely like a 2WD? In those conditions in the past we typically use Part Time (in Select Trac) and it would be a lot more stable at 30- 40 mph or so, then the full-time mode.
I guess what I'm asking is what is your experience with general driving stability of a GC with QD while driving down very slippery roads v.s. a full time "Locked" center diff? Does it hold well, or do things get loosy goosy until it grabs? Most demos on the internet have to do with QD getting unstuck on rocks, hills, slogging through mud, or plowing through deep snow. But the stability of QD driving down snowy roads v.s. a locked xfer case (even with an open rear diff) is my concern. When you get into the deep stuff you want to keep every inch of forward momentum, not slow down while wheel spin transfers power to another wheel. Looking for your real-world experience.
Thanks in advance.

Lived in Cotopaxi, Colorado till 2013. Lots of snow. Short answer, it works ok. I personally prefer the np 231 so swapped out my np 247for one about two weeks ago. Best advice I can give is drive it and see if it meets your needs. Sorry, I know that's not much help.
No, it will drive fine. Last winter we had a 6-8 inch snowfall and I had no stability problems with my QD-II. The transition from rear wheel spin to FWD is progressive in torque...so you don't even notice. On a dry gravel incline I feel the intermittent slip but not in snow.

Hi I'm driving a 96 4.0 ZJ with the NP249 tcase. It works perfectly on slippery road for me, can't even tell that it's not completely locked, just at turns. I live on a mountain and we often have snow. In my opinion the key is the tire. I run on pirelli scorpion m+s and it takes me every where
