Anything special about Mopar P/S fluid?
Is it clear like most p/s fluids, or is there any reason to believe it's unique in any way?
Thanks

Yeah. It's clear and only $7 at the dealer. Rather than risk loosing the seals in my 160K mile system, I used Mopar. The pump was starting to whine a bit and now it's quiet. It even seems to steer easier without the slight vibrating feel it had at low speed.
You just read my post. Is that the reason you asked the question?

Yea, it's real special if you have the hydraulic cooling fan. Tried using something else when I was in bind. Had to drain it and refill with factory.

In another post of yours you state you have a 03 Overland. If you are talking bout p/s fluid for the 03 don't buy anything but the mopar stuff. You have the hydraulic cooling fan, same as my 02 Overland. It is hydraulic fluid.NOT generic p/s fluid. Our cooling fans run off the power steering pump. It is a different fluid than dave1123 is talking about. It is called Mopar Hydaulic system power steering fluid. Part # MS-10838. It's a lot more expensive than 7 bucks a quart. I am looking at one right now. Look into this info before you dump that other stuff in there.

Yes, I have the hydraulic fan, like you say. I'm sure it meets some typical spec and packaged from a mainstream supplier. Just curious if anyone knew of a well-known less costly alternative. Maybe I'll have to spring for the Mopar stuff.

You know, now I'm REALLY confused! I went to my dealer's parts dept. and got my power steering fluid. They asked me if it was clear or not. I said no, but it was old and oxidized. I told them it was a 4.0 with an electric cooling fan. They gave me MS-10838. They said MS-5931 had been superseded by the new part number. I put it in and it does run quieter. When I went back for more, the parts guy handed me 2 qts. of MS-5931 for free because they were the last in his inventory and he wanted to get rid of them. (different parts guy)
All the research I've done tells me it should be MS-5931. Reading the bottles isn't much help. My question is will the MS-10838 ruin the seals in my pump or not? And will mixing the two a bad thing to do? Both are clear fluids.
