My 96 Grand Cherokee has been giving me a lot of problems lately, and I don't know a whole lot about these cars, so I figured I'd ask the experts.

For the last few months, the car will just randomly stall when I am driving, and sometimes it doesn't start back up, other times it does. The CEL comes on and off periodically, but everything appears to be fine when it comes on. My driveway has an uphill slope, and when I am driving up it into the garage, it sputters and will either die or it will barely barely run and crawl into the garage. When I shift it into drive, it bogs down, shakes, and sometimes will die. I was going to the parts store earlier today and backing out of the garage. It rolled down the drive way, and when I gave it gas, it was acting like I had it in neutral, and then it jumped backwards. A few months ago, I was driving on the FWY up into the foothills. There was a pretty decent grade, 7 or 8% I believe it was. I was driving along at 65, no cruise, and as I hit the hill, the oil pressure dropped very, very low and the car had no power. I got into the slow lane quickly and I could barely go 25mph until I finally got to the top and it slowly came back to life.

I talked to the guys at the parts store, and they suggested the CPK, but they are unsure as to which one. Does this ring a bell with any of you guys? I don't know if this is all related or not. Could this be related to a failing transmission or TC? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

Check the fuel pressure and find out if there are any stored codes, then report back with your findings.
