Problems filling gas tank...
I've had this off and on problem filling up my gas tank...there are times I can only get about half a gallon before it keeps clicking off, if I hold the handle at half flow it will generally fill up ok but is kind of a PIA, anyway, I've taken the entire filling tube apart even took out the siphon spring thinking that may have been causing it but it keep's doing it, nothing is obstructing the flow of gas into the tank and it's become somewhat annoying lately. Occasionally I'll even get back spray from the gas nozzle.
Any thoughts?

You could be inserting the pump too far in. It'll cause splash back abs cause the pump to shut off. And it's better to pump slower. You actually get more fuel that way.

Thank you I will keep this in mind next time I fill up, because of this problem I actually try shoving the thing as far down as possible probably making the problem worse! DOH!

I've experienced this with several different cars. It is usually the pressure shut off valve on the pump itself. If it is a hot day and your tank is nearly empty the cool underground temp of the gas contacting the significantly warmer tank material when you are filling expands the gas releasing vapors and that causes the handle to click off. An easy remedy is to gap the rubber filler seal on the handle from the fill neck of your tank. The pressure escapes and no click off of the handle. Best time to fuel up is in the morning and only use the slow fill setting on the handle.

My Jeep does the same thing if I put the fill hose all the way in. What I do that helps is put it all the way in and then pull it out about 2 to 3 inches then fill it up. This gives you a gap that allows your tank to breath better. Also, I don't hold the pump wide open, it is not cause I can't I just don't. I will pull it wide open to start and then back off of it just enough that I hear the pump slow down a little. This would be about 3/4 pull on the handle I would say. All of this is pretty much what Red and Alpha was saying.
Thanks for the replies, I'm not glad I'm not the only one but at least I know I'm not a total tard!
What's interesting is that when I travel north(I live in CA) I don't have this problem at higher elevations and in Oregon they are only full service stations and it's never been a problem either. AM PM seems to be the biggest issue so you guys are right it must be the pump's I'm using.
