I may give that a try, however, I replaced sending unit earlier. Still no oil pressure, & I'm getting some engine tapping now. I am using a puralotor pure 1 filter at the moment. Any suggestions?

I apologize for having to jump into others threads like this, but I'm trying to make informed decisions here. I open the valve cover today & sure nuff, there is the worst case of sludge I'v seen on an engine to date. Its pretty thick & hard. I plan to recheck the oil pump in the morning to see if any of this brownie like substance made its way back down into the pan causing a clog. Also, I forgot to prime the oil pump, should I use vasoline??

I don't understand how you made it home with a bad oil pump. Lifter noise is one of the first things you will hear with low oil pressure, very soon after something will lock up in the engine. I liked the mechanical guage idea but I guess you can't go wrong replacing the oil pump.

I've rebuilt lots of engines and use motor oil to prime the oil pump. I take the plugs out and kill the ignition then crank the engine until the oil pressure comes up. That way you've lubed the engine too.

I'ma try priming it in the morn. I'm getting no pressure still. There is a boat load of gunk in the engine. Took off the valve cover earlier & was amazed, never so an engine so gunked up like this til now. I'm still open to ideas though. If I don't get through this weekend, I'll just sell her. This is my first Jeep, but I'm not big on Chrysler at all.

Hmmm well as for all the sludge ur gunna have to clean that out of their obviously. but ill bet that if its not the pump or the sending unit then the sludge ended up clogging the filter but as for filter type i use fram tough guard. i know a lot of people dont care for them but i always use them and never have a problem.

That's what I'm inclined to say as well. Bloody sludge. How should I go about getting it out?? I was wondering if I would have to reomve the top end, then flush with some anti-sludge substance. I mean the stuff looks like the top of a brownie. Its been in there for a good while, caked & baked.

You should clean everything you can see inside the engine. Diesel fuel works pretty well for that since it oils the parts a little too. Once you get your pressure up you should flush the engine. I've mixed a cup or so of diesel in with the motor oil for the flush to help clean the passages, just get it out before you drive it. get some spare filters to catch the junk you'll break loose.

I'd probably start looking for a good used engine
