Exclamation Please Help

I have a 96 Grand Cherokee limited. Within the last few months I have changed the starter, and just last night change the ignition coil. However, my Jeep continues to do the same thing. First symptom, when I turn the key, none of the gages light up, and the ignition won't turn over right away. After I leave the key in the on position for a few minutes everything lights up and then I can start the Jeep with some pumping of the gas peddle. Once it is started when I put it in reverse it shuts off again. The last time it did this was last night after I change the ignition coil, and now it won't start again. I'm at a loss now. What do I do?

in line 6? V8? aftermarket alarm? sounds like the ignition switch to me or the NSS if it's a 4.0l. Try to start in neutral.

Sorry it is a V8. Also, we have tried to start in Neutral, but when I turn the key. Nothing lights up. The fuel pump doesn't even hum. Would the ignition switch also cause the Jeep to shut off while driving or when it is shifted into reverse?

while driving yes, in reverse could be a coincidence... you need to check the switch. Do you have manuals and diagrams?

Exclamation Now What do I do?

Okay so, I changed the ignition switch, and when I turn the key on I'm still not getting anything from my Jeep. When I turn the key none of the gages turn on, the fuel pump doesn't hum...nothing. Any suggestions? I followed instructions in manual, am I forgetting something? Please help!!!!

Check the positive latch relay, this relay gives + to almost everything and is powered by the ignition switch.

This might be a silly question, but where is the positive latch relay. Is this in near the starter relay? Sorry, this is a new issue for me.

Just to give you an idea of what I am seeing. The dome lights come on, and the halo light around the key is lit up now, but when I put the key into start position nothing else is happening. Before I changed the switch it would do this off and on, and if I left the key in the start position for a few minutes, then eventually all the gages would light up and then I could start the Jeep. After I changed the switch I left the key in the start poistion for almost an hour, and still nothing lit up. So it sounds like it could be a relay or something, because like you said there is no positive power going to anything in the car. Except the dome lights and the door chime of course.

my XJ did this once it ended up being the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood. I found it when it blew the 40amp fuse.

Well, I've been checking at my auto parts store and none of them seem to have the starter relay. Am I in the twilight zone here, or do I have to get that from the dealer, bcuz that was my second guess was the relay.
