Planning on installing a Taurus fan, have a question.
I was planning on doing the inline thermo switch housing in the upper radiator hose but was not sure if I should get the 36MM (1.42") or 38MM (1.5"). I planned on drilling out the temp sensor to the right thread pitch. They look like this.
Thanks,
Max

I did some more reading and some guys used 1.5" exhaust tube and said it's tight but it works. I ordered the 38MM (37.98MM or 1.495"). When I saw them on Ebay for $6-12 I figured that seemed pretty good compared to trying to find one off a Saab in the JY. Plus aluminum is nice and easy to drill and tap to the 14mm 1.5 thread pitch for the BMW thermo switch. Here is the one I got http://www.ebay.com/itm/300989978375...84.m1439.l2649

Apologies for my ignorance, can one of you guys explain why this mod is being done or what it's used for? Is this for controlling the thermostat? Coolant temp reading?

It's used to hold the Dual Temp thermo switch. The Taurus fan is a dual speed fan and needs a switch with low and high speed signals. I will be using the BMW 195/210 switch. I ordered the switch, connector & wires from BMW since I have seen some bad reviews on the cheap $11 switches from rockauto having the low side fail. They do offer other switches that cost more but the one from BMW was only $35 list and my buddy owns an auto shop so I paid 20% less. Just waiting on the housing to show up now and then I'll get that fan installed. I just hope the fan will clear the water pump without having to trim the shroud too much. That's the one part I could not find info on during my searches.
