so i've been having this problem lately. overheating. i've replaced the water pump (took the belt off to fix a leak from behind the pump and found the bearings were shot in the pump) then i replaced the radiator (it was a used one, but it doesn't leak like the old one) then i replaced the thermostat. then i took the thermostat out...i know that isn't the best thing to do but i figure it helps out a little bit. my problem is that the thing does fine on the highway but as soon as i start driving in city trafic it creeps up and up. it really sucks and i'm at my wit's end here. anyone have this kind of problem before? if so how in the world did you fix it?

one thing you might try, check out you ac rad. make shere air can get thurgh it to get to you engine cooling rad.

my problem was that i had but, rocks, bugs and pine needels stuck in it.
cleand it out and now it runs nice and cool. about 195 on a hot day.

one thing i did before that was to disconnect the air conditioner compressor and drive with the defrost on so that the electric cooling fan would run all the time. that worked till i did fixed it.

dono if that help but good luck

HELP!!! I have a 2000 Cherokee Classic. After about 10 Min of driving, the temperature gauge jumps all the way up. First thing, I checked and the fluid was leaking out of the overflow...not boiling, but more like spilling over...Things I did: 1. New thermostat...didn't fix it. 2. New Radiator and hoses...didn't fix it. 3 New fan clutch and electrical fan check ...didn't fix it, 4. Did a pressure check, water pump check, and a flush...didn't fix it...I don't know what to do next!! Any suggestions???

I finally got it fixed. Even after real mechanics told me the water pump was good I followed your advice, pulled it out and confirmed the water pump was the culprit. Thanks! Next project is the Evaporator Core which I wanted to do about a month ago but the budget was a little tight. Now, I have to start saving again and wait it out some more on fixing the A/C....I guess I will have to take the Miami Heat for a while longer.
