Default Overhead Console reset - Stuck in Deutsch

Is there a way to reset the overhead console display to its factory default settings? After getting vehicle (2000 GCL 4.0L) a few months back, I was checking out the console and trying link it to garage door opener. In the course of fiddling with it, I am now stuck with the display in German and it will not cycle through back to English. Is there a way to reset it or is there a specific component I can replace or switch out? Is this a pull and plug part that I may find at the wreckers? Just curious if anyone has some avenues to attack this problem. Thanks.

You can do that, OR take it down and clean the contacts on the buttons. Mine is getting wonky as well. It's held in the overhead with 1 phillips screw and clips.

BTW, be very careful with those grain-of-rice bulbs. They are $7 each and fall out easily. The courtesy light bulbs are changed from the back. They said just pry on the lens. WRONG! Check out wjjeeps.com

Wreckers, huh? You must be in the UK.

No, I get you, the wreckers crack was kind of a joke. I really meant is this the type of part that I could get from ebay and just drop in and it would link up with the existing electronics without a hitch. I will try removing and cleaning connections as you suggest, but thought maybe as a backup plan an ebay module (running between 40-90 bucks) would work. Will disassemble, clean and reassemble as step one. Thanks.

Yeah, the VIC just displays info stored in the BCM. It has no independent computing function itself, although it's part of the CCD data bus. No...wait. I think the compass is in it. Yours may have a transmitter in it for your garage door opener. Mine's just the cheap one.

When you said wreckers, that's what the Brits call junkyards. I'm not above using junkyard parts for body stuff or big things like axles.
