Default oil pressure problems

i have a 96 jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl and i've had a few problems with the oil pressure with the jeep in gear from a stop taking off the oil pressure will drop to 0 then after a second or 2 it'll come back up to normal. any ideas what this might be? not sure if its the sending unit goin bad or the oil pump.
thanks

Replace the sender. If you're not hearing any noise I would doubt the oil pump is bad.

Wial the truck is idoling pull the oil filler cap off an shine a flashlight in... You should see a good streem of oil spraying to the top of the valve cover.... My 96 zj does the Same at idol it goes down to 10 oil pressure then when I drive it shoots to 60.... But then again my truck is got 200k on it and I also used thicker oil to improve pressure...

It's proably like stated above just the sendor

Oil pumps don't make pressure anyway, they only create the flow of the oil, it's the tight tolerences between the bearings and crank and cam journals that make pressure. Excessive bearing clearence is the main cause of low oil pressure.

When you have the oil pressure sender out, run a small screwdriver or pipe cleaner into the hole for the sender just to make sure there is not any gunk/sludge blocking the passage too.
