Default Oil Pressure

I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee. The oil pressure gauge usually reads below 40 (center of the gauge). Recently the needle is at or above the 40 mark (well above at higher speeds). How concerned should I be? Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, Bruce.

Jeep oil pressure gauges are notoriously unreliable indicators of the true pressure. Buy or borrow a mechanical oil pressure test gauge and use it to determine the oil pressure at idle and under acceleration.

If you have any questions after that there are sections specifically for the GC platform to help you. Let us know what you find out.
