Right, got her back after a R10 000 service (done by the car dealer so no cost to me) , I am delighted to be rid of the "service 4WD system" message! FYI, my oil cap states 5w-20 which conflicts with the manual. Very odd. Havnt calculated consumption yet but display reads 15l/100 km combined. Also have not noticed the message when in this mode to inform me that the MDS is engaged but I believe this message is not present on any of the 2005 models and was only added in later models along with the option to deactivate the tilting mirrors when in reverse. Bummer. Will have to do the little LED mod for the MDS system. Thanks for all the help guys!

I would say that's about 30% stop go and 70% cruising. I can't believe how economical this thing actually is if you drive like a granny!! Oh well, point proven. Guess I can unleash on the happy pedal again!

My '97 ZJ Limited had that, and it was annoying. My '04 WJ SE doesn't though, thank goodness.

Update on this one- the 5w-30 has indeed allowed the mds to engage. I have confirmed this by adding the mds light modification. Have drained the the oil now and replaced with the 5w-20. Would like to compare consumption now, and also see if the mds remains engaged for longer with correct oil! Current consumption with 5w-30 is 8.3km/litre, highway only. Will report back and put this little issue to bed
