OD unit question

OD unit question

I have a 2004 GC and have lost reverse but have all forward gears and no engine braking. My belief is that the OD unit is the culprit. I have a 1998 Cherokee,can I take the OD unit off of it to use? Is it a identical part?

I'm not an expert on trans by any means but don't think the OD unit had anything to do with reverse not working.

From what I'm reading on this forum it seems to be a common problem with the OD direct snap ring? I am trying to do the repair myself. I know I may sound foolish on some of the questions but want to do the repair myself.
