Got my busted motor out.
Took of the torqverter and flex plate.
Went to bolt it on the 06 TJ motor.....
2 of the holes dont line up on the flexplate? Aargghhhhh!
anyone know of the TJ automatic flexplate is the same diameter as the 99 GC flexplate ??
That was a show stopper this afternoon as I was gonna shoehorn it back in and start buttoning it up for a hopefull evening drive Friday.

did you try to turn the flex plate to each hole. I have never worked on a 4.0 but all 5.2 and 5.9 the flex plate will only fit one way. Has to be facing the right direction and turned to the right set of holes.

I am gonna mark them in the morning and go thru it agin. i did have some oil nd grit in my eyes from laying underneath my GC pulling out the busted motor.
I also am thinking that i may have to just drill the holes just a hair to make them fit. It shouldnt throw it out of balance as its centered over the crank.
I feel like a junk yard dawg right now. hehehehe

If I drill the 2 holes a hair to get 2 bolts thru it, yet the flexplate as a whole is centered up.
or , is the flexplate indexed to bolt to the crank exactly, which i can not find any marks on each to show that.

The Crankshaft position sensor is triggered by notches in the flywheel/flexplate. (On all but the 4.7L V8). It controls the spark and fuel timing and detects engine rpms. On my 5.2L it only goes on one way, as stated earlier by RRAM. I don't know what will be the affect, if any, of altering the mounting holes. I've never worked on a 4.0L.

UPDATE ! I am a doofus
Yes, I am a doofus ! Everything lined up and nothing had been changed on the bolt pattern.
I reckon i had to much grit n oil in mah eyes last night and had been underneath the GC so long my mind wasnt functioning any longer.

Had to knock out the sleeve that sits in the crank for a manual tranny. There was no pilot bearing so I thought the torqverter wood slide right in. Took me a hour to figure that out. lol
Got r dun !
motor is ready to slide back into the bay, so monday I will get it down in between the fenders.
