Default is this normal for dome lights

Hello

I had some work done on my jeep from a friend (i could have done all the work but he needed money and i don't have a lot of extra time).

anyways now the dome lights will not turn off even after the vehicle is turned off and all doors shut.

you literally have to lock all the doors and just having them locked don't work you have to make sure you use the lock button. then and only then does the lights turn off on their own.

what i don't know is if they will turn off on their own after a few minutes I've not checked this but it was not like this before.

but

one of the items fixed or replaced was the light switch. a new automatic switched with fog lights was install (same kind the vehicle had).

also all the done lights was replaced with led lights
Amazon Amazon

i mean its not a major issue its just something that was not like that before but perhaps it should have been and the switch being bad kept them from working right.

You didn't mention what year the jeep was, but I'm willing to bet it has to do with the LEDs. The BCM controls the timing out of the lights and it probably doesn't have the resistance to read anymore. You may get away with installing a ballast resistor in the circuit.

sorry dave

with as many of my posts you answer i would think you know more about my vehicle than i do.

its a 1996 grand cherokee limited.

whats the part your talking about and is there any links or videos on how to install it?

i will end up removing all the new led ones and putting in the old ones again see if it still does it.

if it stops this.

is there any problem reinstalling the leds without that part if i make sure i always lock the doors using that lock door switch?

would using led builds for the dome and turning signals possibly cause an issue with he dash panel i am experiencing?

i mean i guess my first step would be to replace all the replaced led bulbs with the old ones again ( i kept the old ones just in case i needed bulbs).

i guess that could be a start for the instrument dash panel and see what happens.

although i did like the led for the dome and i thought they looked good in the turning signals and such.

Go to superbrightleds.com and you can get the resistors and any information you need.

My 2000 WJ needed gauge lights so I ordered green LEDs for it. Bad move! My red needles disappeared! Plus any red numbers couldn't be seen. I ordered and installed soft white ones. When you turn the dash lights all the way down, they are still dimly lit. I still use the regular warning light bulbs. I'm using 550 lumin reverse light LED's and they are great! All the LEDs I used were not on Can-Bus circuits so they didn't interfere with the BCM.

BTW, now that the techs have removed the vehicle profile from the profile block, it gets confusing who's got what. That's why I added it to my signature.

hello Dave

checked out that website, for the dome lights it does not say anything about resisters or such. I mean they work fine in the jeep just that weird issue, perhaps they'd go out on their own, i'll be doing some testing over the next week on a few things.

i like it on the flashers i think its the flashers so if i keep them like that i'll order that flasher module to resolve those.

but my other issues more more important to me at the moment, my other threads hopefully you can take a look when you get a chance and tell me what you think.

what i'll be doing over the next week as time permits.

removing all led lights in stalled

see if simply doing that gets my dash to start working again

check to see if the alternator is working have to get batteries for my meter

find out why the belt is squealing or whats squealing

then i can resume working on the light issue.

hopefully i can get some advise on the other threads.

thanks

ryan

Default update

hello everyone and dave1123

i found the flasher item but i can't find anything regarding what i'd need or possibly could need for the dome lights in terms of a resistor and such.

someone mentioned they might be in backwards, how would i know that if they light up?

i've not gotten around to switching them out with the old ones and see if the same issue with them staying lit up continues.

but the idea that the leds draw so little power it don't realize its on sounds reasonable but i can't find what i'd need to install to fix it if anything can be installed.
