No power?
ive been in a few cherokees and it feels like my grand cherokee is down on power. i know its somewhat heavier then a cherokee. but from 0 mph i step on the gas and it jumps, then from 1500-3000rpm its like nothing, then it feels like its pulling again 3-4k rpms.
am i just not use to it b.c i just started driving it or is there something wrong. it has new plugs and i have new wires 4 it.

Transmission fluid level/condition, trans filter, Plugged cat/muffler, and torque converter would be a couple of other things to consider if the other things check out OK...

Grand Cherokees especially the ZJ line are horrible for blowing fuel pumps. A bad pump could cause those problems as well. You can check the line pressure to confirm.
If its the pump. Two options...Take down tank to replace it or lift carpet and cut a hole to make a door for future repair. As my buddy wheeled the hell out of his ZJ, he was killing a pump a year so he just cut the trap door for easy replacement.

Most from what I've found the ZJ's with the 4.0 have the worst trany built. The 42re just plain sucks.... My ZJ is on it's 4th and 5th torq converter...

well the check engine light does work b/c it came on after i ripped out a sensor in the t-case. i was thinking about running some 93 octane gas in it after this tank tho.
but anyone know the sensor im talking about? towards the bottom and the lights in the console still come on telling me if im in 4x4 or not, so what does it do?

If you are comparing a XJ to a ZJ power wise then that is your problem. The XJ and ZJ are a lot alike, but there are some serious differences. First off the trans is different, and it has different gear ratios. The ZJ has different differential gear ratios too. The ZJ is a bit heavier as well. So it seems like you are comparing apples to oranges. I would guess there is nothing wrong with your ZJ. Its just a ZJ.
And the sensor I think you are talking about it the transfer case range sensor. It is mostly for the small vehicle display on your dash that you are referring to. Was the sensor on the top of the transfer case near the front, or was is on the extension housing near the rear driveshaft?

Now that we are on the ZJ power subject. A Small question. Mine is the V8 5.2L. Has there been any major problems with those? Mine runs great in every way. Just if something does go wrong I would have a idea of "maybe its".
