Default Newbie with a problem starting my 94 zj 4.0

A week ago I was driving down the interstate towing a empty 5x8 trailer and "Bang...Bang... Bang...Boom" Smoke came out of the tail pipe and I'm lucky no one shot back... it just shut down on me. My Gas light was on so I thought I had run out of gas... no luck, filled it to a quarter tank and it still wouldn't start. Had it towed home and have been trying to troubleshoot it... it cranks, feels as if it wants to start but it doesn't catch. Can hear the fuel pump activate when the ignition is turned...I checked all fuses and relays, all seem fine. this morning I swapped out the F&*%ing CSP sensor, what a dog to get to and actually get out and still a no go. I ran the ignition diagnostics and came up with codes 12, 34 earlier in the week... This morning 11,12, 34... dash lights are on when I turn the ignition including the engine light... has new plugs, wires distributer and rotor... new to this so any instructions are appreciated. Maybe timing chain? Not sure how to check it? Would I have had some indicators before this happened if the chain was foul? Fuel injectors? not sure how to tell? Pretty sure the pump is working as I can hear it, but that is all. no spark? possibly is there a way to check the coil as I've replaced the plugs, cap and rotor? It has 190,000 miles so could be a lot of things.

94 JGC Se Mossy Oak edition..4.0 6cyl...
3" lift with 31's and new suspension all around...
would hate to just give up on it.. or put a lot more money into it...

Fuel pressure, check the fuel pressure. Do you make it a habit to run below half a tank all the time?

I don't... I try to keep it above 1/2... This was only the second time I've seen the gas light in 2 years... What is the easiest way to check the fuel pressure? Can the pressure be off even if the pump is working? I'll scan through the forums, but if there is a method I should try... I'd love to know. Thanks so much

There is a test port that a gauge screws onto. It is possible for the pump to run and still have no pressure.

It's possible when the fuel ran low, you kicked up some debris in the bottom of the tank and plugged the pump intake screen or the filter. Usually the intake screen will settle out after a while, but the fuel filter will not.

I think Busted's right. I sounds like it went lean.
