Default Newbie-1994 Grand Cherokee, Looking for 3-5 lift.

Hello everyone,

Last weekend I purchased a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee, its in pretty good shape and has been well cared for its entire life. I purchased it with every service record from 100k to 168k where it is at now. The gentlemen I purchased it from was pretty **** and keep very meticulous records!

The only down side is that the suspension has been neglected pretty bad. Since 90 percent of what need to replace comes with a lift kit anyway I was trying to determine where to start. I am only looking for a very basic lift 3-5 inches so I can run a 30-inch tire for some light Off-Roading maybe once a month tops.

From what I can determine I should go with a front to rear spring rear kit. I have also read that these kits to not some with adjustable front and rear track bars, are these something else I should purchase to do my lift? Just reading over this website and a few others, there is a lot of mentioning of changing transfer cases and determining which rear drive-shaft to use? Is this a must for what I am looking to do? If so what transfer cases should I be looking to find? I have searched and it seems like every situation is a little bit different and as someone who has just purchased there first 4wd vehicle some of the terminology is confusing.

Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!

I believe you could run a 30" tire stock with out a lift. A 5" lift is pretty big and you would probably want an adjustable track bar in the front. I put a drop bracket on my rear track bar and it seems to work ok. good luck

What part of the suspension has been neglected? As what all does it need? To run 30" tires off road and flex with out having to cut or tirm anything all you really need is a 2" lift. That is all that I have right now and I run 31" tires. I had to trim a little to make sharp turns and not rub. Also, I can not flex it much cause I will put my tire into my fender. But, a 30" tire fits good. The only reasion that my Jeep has a 2" lift on it is that I bought it that way. I want more lift and bigger tires. If 30" tires is all you really want, I would go with a 2" to a 3" lift. The cheapest is a budget lift that comes with shocks and maybe a transfer case drop for the 3" lift.
