Smile New tranny not shifting

New to the this forum, and could use some advise. A friend's 2000 Grand C'kee tranny slipped at 195K. Some shade tree threw in a rebuilt one and it wouldn't shift, stuck in 2nd, I think. So they replaced the wiring harness to it, and still wouldn't shift. Sent the car to the place where the tranny was rebuilt and they supposedly checked the tranny while it was still on the jeep and said it wasn't the tranny. They claim the computer isn't telling the tranny when to shift.

Any ideas?

There should be a harness from the computer, and if it's like a chevy it should have a tranny fuse in the fuse box. But the tranny shop should have checked that stuff first. Might still be worth looking at the fuse.

they put the right year of tranny in? definitely check the fuses but you should also see if it has any codes stored.

Default Thanks

We'll give it a shot. He went and got it from the shop yesterday. That's about the easiest fix. Sure would be nice.

Hi gang,

Maybe we could help more if we knew what trans it has in it. Or even just tell us if it is a 6 or 8 cyl engine.

Default Huh?

OK gents, here's the latest.
We checked all of the fuses in the fuse box w/ a volt meter. Everything was fine. Under the hood, next to the battery is a box w/ fuses and relays. Low and behold, there's one marked Trans/Solenoid. Unfortuneatly the fuse was fine, BUT, there was no power on either side of the fuse. We also checked it in gear, and still no power to the fuse.

Any ideas?

(BTW, Thanks again)

Default Question.....

If anybody has a comparable Cherokee with a V6, would you take a few minutes and see if there's current running to your fuse?

Thanks,
Don
