Default New Torque Converter for engine swap?

Hello!

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 liter motor and automatic transmission. I am swapping the old motor for a newer 4.7 HO, so the torque converter is exposed. The Jeep has 180k on it and the transmission was making an odd, swooshing noise when I pulled the motor.

Do I need a new torque converter given the mileage and the odd noise? If so, do I need the one to match the HO engine or would the regular 1999 4.7 converter do the job?

Thanks in advance!

In my opinion, replace it. The weak link is the lock-up clutch. The swooshing sound COULD be a blown stator which could cause lack of off-the-line acceleration, or seeming to lack power. It's a good investment. I would also change the filter and clean the pan.

I don't believe you'll need anything more than a standard OEM replacement convertor.
