need help starting old grand cherokee
I have an 97 grand cherokee with 250k miles. It has been having starting issues. It has gotten worse and now will not start. So far we have replaced the distributor cap and rotor, cleaned out the fuel tank and put new screen on fuel pump. Coil is ok. PCM was replaced recently. The engine will turn, the pump works and we have fuel pressure. It just will not catch. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated
Thanks for replying! The check engine light has not come on so I have no codes. The Jeep ran but would cut off randomly with no sputtering or rough running. It would just die, sometimes after 45 minutes or 5 minutes. We have only had it for a few weeks but the PCM was replaced right before we got it.
Check for fire. If I remember correctly there is 2 versions of distributor cap. If you can get a timing light, check for timing. If you can get compression gauge, pull plugs out and run compression test. Look at plugs for wet or black tips. Make sure that your air filter is clean and no vacuum leaks.
