Need Front end help !!!
Hello, I just got my firstJeep and am loving it. It is a 1997 Grand Cherokee Laredo.I use the four wheel drive hunting last week end with no problems. Monday we had a real good snow and used it again. When I pulled in to my drive way tunring right there was a clunk in the drivers side front end aand than it a big dip with the drivers side and it did it again. It only does it on the drivers side and when its in four wheel drive. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks and any help would be great.

I test drove two jeeps that made a clunking noise while in 4wd and not in 2wd and it was a t-case problem. I would check t-case fluid because normally when u-joints on the axle go bad they make a ticking noise not a clunking noise.
Also when you are in 2wd your u-joints or cv joints for the axle will still spin, when I had one of my axle u-joints go bad there was a constant ticking noise in the front not just in 4wd. Not sure about cv axles though as I have never had a cv solid axle rig.

So only when you are in 4wd not 2wd when you are turning right and the sound comes from the drivers side? The only think I could think of is the tire rubbing somewhere but that wouldn't explain why it only happens in 4wd.
Do you have cv joints or u-joints?
To me it is starting to sound like a cv joint if you have them.
If the noise keeps going as you turn it's probably the cv joint on the drivers side.
If it's just one clunk, then it's probably a worn or loose suspension component.
But that is just what I think it MIGHT be. But thats if you have cv joints. You could have cv joints or u-joints.
When you just turn in 4wd is there any popping or clicking or is it only when you go over bumps while turning?
Here is a good website that goes over what you should do to check cv joints:

Hope this helps.
