My upcoming lift
Has anyone on here ever swapped there front coils to the rear as part of a lift? I have had a few people tell me this is a lot cheaper than buying a whole kit. I was kinda wanting to build my kit anyway and this would save me a good chunk of change. Or would it? Any suggestions to this ? would help me make up my mind on which way to go here.

When you move the front springs to the rear you will get approx. 3 to 3 1/2 of rear lift. Here is a lift kit that saves you money by using your front springs in the rear: http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch..._Code=IR-Z_3LK

a front to rear swap is very common on 93 to 98 grand cherokees, the springs are teh same diameter. Many will get 3.5" springs for teh front and move the fornts to the rear which happen to raise the rear by about 3.5" as well. I know this works for V8 springs, not sure if it works as well for I6 equipped vehicles and teh springs are lighter for them.
99-04 WJ springs are not swappable from front to rear as the diameters are different.

tsconver, i've seen alot of questions about V8 and I6 coils and from what i could find the V8's actually aren't that much heavier than the 6's,do you know for sure if the spring rate is different on the 6's coils?...just curious

well I don't think I would use easy in that text. Unless you have a pretty nice fab shop. Just trying to build a relocate bracket for the trac bar would be huge under taking not to mention the guess work of how much to drop it. Even figureing out much to extend the sway bar links not to mention just the time it would take to build them. For 5 hundred bucks your done, complete with shocks the right length and new springs and a track bar (which you can't fab). I really don't think there is a lot of cash sitting there for those links and bracket.

ebay lists an old man emu kit which utilizes this exact procedure selling only the front coils and shocks and a drop down panard bracket. Very affordable. Should be able to run 33" tires.

Oh and I can't remember if it includes one but I would also recommend a drop pitman arm from the steering box to the drag link. www.teamgrandcherokee sells one very reasonable.

you only want to use a drop pitman arm if you are lowering the track bar as well or else the draglink and track bar will not be parallel causing bumpsteer or the infamous dw

A friend of mine put his front springs on the rear of his and got about 3.5 inches of lift. His ZJ had a 4.0. The only thing I have heard of is that if you use the upcountry springs you will get about 4.5 inches of lift.
