Default *My Quadra TracII isn't working

*Note to all:
This is for members who have the similar problem; Mine (you can tell by my sig) will be fixed as soon as I do the install.

Mine (and a lot of others) had the same problem, the Progressive Coupler (Gerotor pump) burns out and you're left with 4-Lo only. The Progressive Coupler is similar to the Viscous Coupler found in the 249. Only when the P.C. burns out you're left with 2WD and 4-Lo only unlike when the 249's V.C. burns out and you get binding.

The options you then have are:

1. Change the fluid (may take a couple of times to "liven" up the P.C.) * Dealer only 247 T.C. fluid*
The problem with this is it only works for maybe 3% of the T.C.'s.

2. Tear down and rebuild the 247 with a new P.C. and chain + seals
The problem with this is that, apparently the P.C.'s are hard to find.
When you do find one, you're paying $500.00 + for the kit.
If you don't know how, you're paying a shop $1000.00 + for the rebuild.

3. Swap in another 247.
The problem with this is that it will most likely happen again. Granted,
you'll probably get more miles out of it than you actually have the Jeep,
nonetheless, it WILL happen again.

4. 247/242HD Swap.
The problem with this is that you're buying not only the T.C. (which isn't
THAT hard to find with todays "national locator" salvage yards),
but purchasing the rear D.S. from the donor vehicle, shift bezel and with
the '99, you're stuck swapping the front D.S T.C yoke from the 247 to
the 242 unless you do a Tom Woods or the like front D.S. conversion
upgrade to full U-joint/Double carden front shaft.

I've weighed all options and the 242 swap seems to make the most economical sense. Don't let be your excuse to not do the 242 is the 247 is a "no thought" involved type of 4WD system.

Sure a lot of people have great success with the 247 and it's off-road capabilities, but the 242 has been around for a long time and it's nice to have more control of which mode you want in any given circumstance.
