Default My brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee is making noises!!

Just a few weeks ago I bought a brand new 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. After driving around for a week or two I started hearing this knocking or tapping noise coming from the engine. As it got progressively worse I decided to call of the dealership. They told me to bring it in for service and that's where it's been for like the last two weeks.

I just heard back from them the other day and they said that they figured out what the problem was. It turns out my new Jeep has a bad lifter. They don't carry it there so they had to order it out . So now I am waiting for to come in and them to install it.

I am not very happy about this entire situation. There should be nothing wrong with a brand-new Jeep at all. My big concern is did I catch this problem in time? Could there be any future problems that I may have because of this? I just don't like the whole thing.

What I would like is a whole brand-new Jeep but the dealership doesn't sounds like they want to do that. What options do I have? Should I call lawyer? Do you guys have any advice?

You want a brand new Jeep over this? Overkill. This should be covered under warranty. Check the mileage covered. Brand new vehicles are not without problems. Be it mechanical, electrical or cosmetic, it happens. Let the dealership take care of it and move on. If you wont have a ride for a couple days, look into getting a rental.

I wouldnt bother with a lawyer. Not over this.

I dont envy you. That is a nuisance for a brand new car. Properly repaired there should be no lasting effects from a bad lifter. Keep an eye for oil leaks, which would indicate improper reassembly. Check the coolant for oil intrusion, which would indicate improper torquing of head gasket (assuming the head has to be pulled for lifters on that engine). Keep an eye on the vehicle and report any future issues to the dealership sooner than later.

Document everything and save your receipts! FCA is destroying Jeep's reputation for reliability worldwide! You didn't buy a cheap Fiat! You bought an expensive Jeep! A VERY expensive Jeep, I might add! Search the internet and take a look at what the world thinks about Jeep NOW! Can you tell it burns my butt? Seriously, I wouldn't buy any jeep newer than 2004.

About getting a new one? Forget it! Once you drive it off the dealers lot, it's yours. They may give you a loaner vehicle to drive while they fix it, but don't hold your breath. The dealers won't spend a dime that isn't authorized by corporate. It used to be dealers cared about your service, looking ahead to you buying your next car from them, not any more.

Hi PhillyJeepGuy,

I'm sorry to hear you had to experience this with your brand new Jeep. Did your dealership put you in a rental during this process? If you still need one while the repair is being completed, please let me know.
