I have been having the dealer change my oil on my 05 Grand since I bought it. Just changed it for the first time myself yesterday and under the oil cap was some white gunk that resembled spoiled milk about a cup full. None in the oil itself but the oil was almost watery, very thin, there was about 4000 mile on it. What was the white gunk?

Sounds like you may have an intake leaking. I would take it in and have it tested, or start your motor and take your oil cap off, if your motor bogs down, that may indicate an intake leak.

I work at a 10 min oil change place and I see it on all of the new Jeeps/Dodges. Especially those with a big engine fill caps with the block off plastic thing in it. Not sure exactlywhat it is tho

One other possibility is condensation, especially if you check it when the motor is cold or it hasn't been run in some time. If it still has that when it's hot then that's when you got a problem somewhere.

It is most likely just condensation. Up here in Canada at least, if you park in a heated garage or do a lot of city driving, the condensation inside the crankcase does got get enough time to warm up and burn off, so the majority of the condensation is collected on the oil cap. It is a white/tan colored sludge with maybe some water droplets with it.

ive seen that allot growing up in ohio. its just condensation. dont see much of it here in de tho

that is emulsioned oil, (oil+water) and it is probably just condensation like sems says.

Before u dismiss it I would have it checked out..

could be a blown head gasket, intake leak or condensation.. regardless it is water (or coolant) mixing with your oil..

is your coolant getting low? just keep an eye on that

sounds like a head gasket,also what everyone else said if your filling the antifreeze often ...itsmost likely a head gasket

My 89 xj does the same thing. I thought it was a head gasket but I don't loose any antifreeze. I was told its normal??

Condensation (water) in the crankcase is normal if you only do short trips everywhere you go. To get rid of it, make sure you take the jeep out and go on a nice long drive every few weeks, like at least 30 minutes. This will ensure that the motor gets hot enough to evaporate the water, and that it has enough time to evaporate all of it.
