loose front end..advice regaurding wobbling and popping
hello all my cherokee wobbles terrribly when between speeds of 40-50mph. The only way to stop it is to brake sharply or accelerate shrply beyond 50 mph..the steering is very loose...i replaced both hub assemblies..no improvement..additionally a quite loud pop noise occurs when turning the wheel..

Seems like blue was trying to help, and I highly doubt that everything is loose under the front end. And as for the comment about you throwing parts at it, it was a logical question. That is what alot of people do.

check your frame at the steering box, they tend to crack around the bolts.
also check your track bar bushings/frame mount bracket/bolts. there are 3 on the side and 1 or 2 under neath.
have someone vigorously shake the steering wheel with the vehicle off, while you inspect every tie rod end, and bushing (track bar and control arms).
while you're at it, inspect the ball joints by prying up on a lifted wheel with a pipe or large pry bar.
good luck.

thanks for the advice...seriously this time
yea i guess youre right some people do just throw parts at itI was frustrated that day, my apologies. your advice was helpful...track bar was one thing..left ball joint was another culprit..after changing the power sterring pump, the popping sound coming from the steering box has subsided..the prior owner listened to thier mech and replaced the stabalizer bar; which in fact masked the problem for abouyt 200 mi..left ball joint, and worn track bar is causing most of the looseness..from not addressing the "wobble" right away and driving it like that for like a year..(this is not my vehicle)im guessing..the prior owner and his "trusted" mech could never find a solution to the socalled death wobble..lastly i changed the power steering pump myself which was a venture but a success nonetheless..thank you all for your help...again sorry for being an ***..you couldve ignored my thread..

It's a whole lot easier to replace the arms than it is to replace only the bushings. The cost will be a little more, but it is worth it. You can find quality arms at www.rockauto.com . Do not bother with the junk on ebay.

I was having similar problems on my 2 month old new to me 98 gc. Had it aligned, they said they did the "shake" test and all was good. Week later had the DW. Replaced track bar and its never driven so well. Likes been said, I'll go with all new upper, lower, front to back control arms and forget about it for another 14 years.
