Seems to be common that replacement caps are junk and twist on getting tight...then loosen up to the point of being pretty much off.

Looks like the older renix cherokees can use a Volvo 940 turbo cap (as mentioned in a thread here)

Also some have luck with Volvo 10244 or 10224 cap.

Anyone else have a loose cap solution?

OK update-

This cap--for a 1994 Volvo 940 Turbo fits much better. Still will pop off again if you keep twisting if after it is tight. But not too bad, much more confident with this on--however the little "funnel" sleeve inside the coolant bottle has to be removed for it to work. Any year 940 turbo (90-96 were the only years anyway) should fit, since it's all the same part if catalogs/internet is correct. I'm assuming some other caps fit as well, but no one has discovered it. NOTE: some places list this cap as THE radiator cap, some list it as the coolant bottle/tank cap........ mine is black, I've read they come in green or black, same thing

THIS is the cap that is sold all over that looks like OEM but works like cr--

Slips off once you turn it 1/4 turn past it first becoming tight.

I still have the old cap--I'm guessing over 20 years the coolant bottle has warped and eventually the cap did too--it has some cracks on *top* that do not extend to the inside of the cap--same thing on the side--a crack but it has not extended to the inside where it would affect the threads.

I plan on finding something a bit bigger than doing a ghetto fab rig job.... make a cap off some other bottle that is bigger, fill it up with epoxy and then hopefully that reinforces everything.

finally pulled the pic off my camera--the Volvo cap replacement.... held just fine after some burly runs at Prairie City, and a few days in the snow.
